- Grateful
This may sound hypocritical coming out of his mouth, but he is actually glad to be a Singaporean.
Low crime rate, no conventional (earthquakes, tsunamis etc.) natural disasters, stable government, free from major strife... it's not at all a bad place to live in. Granted there are things that are less than agreeable, but how many people would give anything just to be able to live in peace? Mothers always compare their children to kids from poorer countries (say Rwanda) when they waste food. "Children in Rwanda would give anything to eat the food you waste!", is what they normally say. He thinks it extends to more important things too. Like Peace.
Living in Singapore has cons too. Higher cost of living (well, prices are increase aren't they?), restricted press freedom, sometimes clumsy handling of issues are just some of them. But before he gets castigated, there's more...
At least Singaporeans have things to be grateful for. He doesn't know about you but he was taught that such things are not supposed to be taken for granted.
(Of course he is trying to live up to that teaching... hah~)
